S-60 自動防空砲由克拉斯諾亞爾斯克機械廠製造，1950 年列裝。該砲提供手動、半自動或自動的目標捕捉與瞄準，後者使用射擊指揮裝置或雷達。

S-60 automatic anti-aircraft (AA) cannon was manufactured at Krasnoyarsk machine works and accepted into service in 1950. The canon provides manual, semi-automatic or automatic target acquiring and aiming, with the fire direction device or radar for latter.
By the mid 1960's Soviet AAA regiments with AA canons began rapid transition to much more effective surface-to-air missiles, and by the end of 70's almost all AA cannons were withdrawn from active service in the USSR, but were widely used by other less advanced countries.
S-60 AA cannons are known to be very effective against low-flying targets during Vietnam War, which were hardly being engaged by SAMs of that time. Many S-60's were re-accepted to service during that period.
As many other types of AAA the S-60 cannon were often used against ground units with light and medium armor.
