The Vikhr ATGM is designed to engage tanks and armored vehicles, including those equipped with an air defense system, as well as air targets flying at speeds of up to 800 km/h. It was adopted for service in 1990. In addition to the missile, the system incorporates all-day and night I-251 Shkval sighting and targeting system and two types of launcher racks: APU-8 and APU-6.
