Much like the man-portable anti-tank grenade launchers, the SPG-9 mounted anti-tank grenade launcher is a system in which the projectile receives its initial velocity as a result of gas pressure generated by the starter charge in the barrel, and then accelerates to its maximum velocity using a rocket motor. The PG-9V projectile features a rocket motor and high explosive anti-tank grenade. It is designed to engage armoured targets, destroy enemy manpower and firepower at ranges of up to 1300m. It can be fired from 73mm mounted grenade launchers SPG-9, SPG-9M, SPG-9D and the 2A28 "Grom" smoothbore gun, which is the main armament of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle.
