White shirts are worn by: Landing signal officer (LSO);; General Quality Assurance (QA);; Squadron plane inspectors;; Air transfer officers (ATO);; Liquid oxygen (LOX) crews;; Safety observers;; Medical personnel (white with Red Cross emblem);; Visitors/VIP.
Yellow shirts are worn by: Aircraft handling officers;; Shooters and arresting gear officers;; Plane directors – responsible for all movement of all aircraft on the flight/hangar deck.
Green shirts are worn by: Catapult and arresting gear crews operators;; Air Wing Maintenance Personnel;; Photographer's Mates;; Cargo Handling Personnel;; Helicopter Landing Signal Enlisted Personnel (LSE);; Air Wing Quality Control Personnel.
Green shirts are generally aircraft or equipment maintenance personnel.
Brown shirts are worn by: Air wing plane captains: squadron personnel who prepare aircraft for flight;; Air wing line leading petty officers.
Plane captains wear brown and are responsible for preparing / inspecting aircraft for flight.
Red shirts are worn by: Aviation ordnance personnel;; Crash and salvage crews;; Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD);; Firefighter and Damage Control Party.
Blue shirts are worn by: Aircraft Handlers;; Tractor Drivers;; Aircraft Elevator Operators.
They are subordinate to yellow-shirt Plane Directors
Messengers and Phone Talkers also wear blue color jersey
Purple shirts are worn by: Aviation fuel handlers.
These are affectionately known as "grapes".
