Dozens of different variants of the Toyota LC70/HL were developed during the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, each with different weaponry and capabilities.
The most common variant is a pickup truck with machine guns mounted in its bed.
These vehicles are used during offensives to suppress enemy fire and personnel. They are highly effective against infantry because the weapons can fire while the vehicle is moving. Firing on the move prevents the enemy from defending themselves effectively. The spacious bed allows several personnel to be transported for a subsequent assault in close proximity to enemy forces, even when a large-caliber machine gun is mounted.
